Tragedy at Construction Site During Heat Wave, Foreign Worker in 20s Found Dead

A tragic incident has occurred at an apartment construction site in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, where a Vietnamese worker in his 20s was found dead amid a heat wave warning.

According to a report by News1 on the 8th, at around 5:42 PM the previous day, a fellow worker discovered the Vietnamese national, referred to as A, slumped over in a seated position at the construction site in the Sandong-eup area of Gumi and immediately reported it.

When the 119 rescue team arrived on the scene, A was already deceased, with a recorded body temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius at the time of arrival.

Tragic Ending on First Day of Work

The police and health authorities suspect that A's cause of death was heat-related illness due to the extreme temperatures. An autopsy will be requested from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.

According to testimonies from colleagues, A had just started working at the construction site on the day of the incident.

Just before leaving work, A said he would "go to the restroom" and did not return, prompting colleagues to search for him. They later found him slumped over on the nearby ground.

On the day of the incident, the temperature in the Gumi area reached a high of 38 degrees Celsius, and a heat wave warning was in effect.
