Explosion Accident at Cosmetics Factory in Yeongcheon, Missing Person's Body Found
The body of a worker who went missing after an explosion at a cosmetics raw materials manufacturing factory located in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, has been discovered.
On the 4th, search authorities found an unidentified body around 6:58 AM in the second factory of the cosmetics raw materials plant in Guham-ri, Geumho-eup, Yeongcheon.
Police suspect that the body is that of A (45), who went missing due to the explosion the previous day, and plan to request an accurate identification from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, among others.
A police official stated, "The degree of mutilation of the body is severe, making identification impossible," and added, "It is presumed to be the person reported missing yesterday."
The search team resumed operations from 6:30 AM, deploying 10 pieces of equipment, including excavators, and 36 personnel to locate A. This was part of ongoing search efforts following the incident.
Fire and Casualties Caused by Major Explosion
The fire began at 12:42 PM on the 3rd due to an unexplained explosion at the cosmetics manufacturing factory. The fire was completely extinguished around 9:53 PM, nine hours after the rapid response from firefighting authorities.
As a result of this incident, factory employee A went missing, while B (in their 50s) suffered serious injuries, including burns, and two teenagers, including C, sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment.
The explosion during the fire created a loud noise and thick smoke, causing great fear among nearby residents and factory personnel.
In particular, the sound of the explosion continued for about five hours, and the shockwave shattered the glass windows of a convenience store located over 300 meters away from the factory, causing damage to surrounding facilities.
A joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire is scheduled for the 5th. The police plan to coordinate a specific investigation schedule with relevant agencies, taking into account weather conditions and the situation at the scene.
