Following the rescue, over 70 shotgun pellets have been discovered inside the body of a white dog undergoing overseas adoption procedures, shocking many.

At the time of the rescue, the dog appeared to be in good condition externally, but it seems that the white dog suffered horrific abuse from someone a long time ago.

On the 25th, the VIP Animal Medical Center announced that over 70 shotgun pellets were found lodged in the body of the recently rescued stray dog.

Although there were no visible gunshot wounds when the dog was rescued, several shotgun pellets were discovered during an X-ray taken for a health check before its overseas adoption.

As a result, the dog's adoption has been 'canceled,' and the medical center immediately proceeded with surgery to remove the pellets.

Director Ahn Seung-Yeop of the VIP Animal Medical Center stated, "There were so many bullets from the head to the shoulders, chest, hips, and legs. It is a miracle that it is alive."

The surgery to remove the shotgun pellets from various parts of the white dog's body lasted over three hours. Director Ahn mentioned, "It was practically difficult to remove all the bullets at once, so we chose to remove as many as possible, focusing on the dog's face."

A total of 26 shotgun pellets were removed in this surgery, while approximately 44 pellets still remain in the dog's body. The hospital plans to consider additional surgery based on the analysis of the removed pellets' composition.

Earlier, on the 8th, in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, two active-duty Marines and one civilian entered a private property without permission and spent about an hour shooting thousands of BB pellets at dogs tied up in the yard.

Due to the acts of these men, the dogs suffered serious injuries, including broken teeth and damage to their eyes. The dog in the most critical condition, 'SomSom', ultimately passed away while receiving treatment.

The police have referred the two active-duty Marines to the military authorities and have charged the civilian man with violations of the Animal Protection Act and trespassing.

Meanwhile, according to the '2024 Survey on the Protection and Welfare of Companion Animals' released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in May, the number of violations of the Animal Protection Act recorded in 2023 was 1,146, increasing by 12.8% from 1,293 cases in the previous year, marking a record high.
