"Stealing TV shows is a daily occurrence… It’s astounding that they feel no shame." (Professor Seo Kyung-duk)
A controversy has arisen over an invitation sent by Zhangjiajie City in China to the production team of Netflix's 'D.P.'
On the 4th, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University pointed out, "Zhangjiajie City is drawing criticism. They are promoting themselves directly by leveraging the global popularity of the drama."
The city used 'D.P.' for local promotion, even mentioning the line from the character Aesoon (played by Moon So-ri) that says, "Let’s go to Zhangjiajie to see the autumn leaves."
He expressed gratitude to the production team and actors of 'D.P.' for mentioning Zhangjiajie in the drama, saying, "There’s no need to wait for autumn, just depart now."
However, Netflix is not available in China. Professor Seo noted, "This publicly admits they are watching secretly."
He added, "This happened during 'Squid Game' Season 2 as well; 'stealing TV shows' has become commonplace. It’s even more astonishing that they feel no shame."
He lamented that a Chinese local government even used the pirated footage for external promotion. Professor Seo urged, "Our government must step in and take action."
Meanwhile, 'D.P.' is a work that unfolds the life of Aesoon (played by IU) and Gwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum), who were born in Jeju, across the four seasons.
