A duck from the Samsung Stream in Anyang, threatened with blindness from stone-throwing, has died from yet another abuse.
In April of last year, it was reported that a family of domestic ducks, loved by local residents near the Samsung Stream in Anyang, suffered severe injuries due to indiscriminate stone-throwing by teenagers.
At that time, three ducks named Il-soon, Lee-soon, and Sam-soon were all injured. Lee-soon was at risk of losing her sight, and Sam-soon suffered a serious leg injury. Il-soon eventually passed away during treatment.
Against this backdrop, shocking claims have emerged that Lee-soon, who was previously at risk of blindness, has also met her demise due to someone else's abuse on the early morning of the 16th.

A shocking update from the neighbor who cared for the ducks.
On the 17th, a neighbor, referred to as "Duck Mom," who had been looking after the ducks shared this news via YouTube.
Duck Mom stated, "Around 5 AM on the 16th, I went to the stream to feed the ducks and look for them. As I looked around, I could only see Sam-soon, and Lee-soon was nowhere to be found. However, when Sam-soon saw me, she didn’t approach but instead fled."
She continued, "Feeling something was off, I started searching for Lee-soon and found her lying under the bridge. She didn't respond when I called her, and when I got closer, I found a wound on the back of her neck as if she had been hit with a blunt object. She was already cold and lifeless. I was stunned and tears just streamed down my face."
Duck Mom reported, "I contacted the police, and an investigation will be underway. Previously, the offenders were minors and couldn't be punished, but this time, I wonder if it might be handled differently."

Sam-soon left alone, keeps searching for signs of Lee-soon.
She added, "Now, I worry about how Sam-soon will live alone. She hasn’t eaten and is just staying at the spot where Lee-soon died."
Moreover, "When Lee-soon was injured, Sam-soon quacked loudly to find her, but now, as if she knows Lee-soon is gone, she doesn’t cry and just keeps wandering back and forth in that spot. I felt that animals might not talk, but they know everything."
Finally, she mentioned, "I received reports of middle and high school students gathering at the stream around 3 AM, making noise. While I have my doubts, the investigation isn’t over, so I’ll share the results once they are available."
As the tragic news of the domestic duck family that once relied on the warm touch of the community being victims of reckless abuse spreads, the local society is engulfed in anger and shock.

In response to the repeated abuse of the ducks, netizens are raising their voices, saying, "All lives are precious and valuable," "This is a horrifying reality," and "We need to make people aware of the seriousness of animal abuse."
Although the Animal Protection Act has been amended, leading to strengthened penalties, it is said that actual legal consequences are rare.
Under current law, those who engage in animal cruelty can face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won; however, without a sentencing guideline from the Supreme Court, penalties vary based on the judge's values and discretion. There is a pressing need for the establishment of sentencing guidelines and legislative improvements.
