Fatal Collision on Sidewalk in Sangam-dong, Mapo District
On the 1st, the anniversary of the "City Hall Station Reversal Disaster" which claimed 9 lives, another incident occurred in Seoul's Mapo District where a vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk, resulting in the death of a citizen.
On the same day, the Mapo Fire Department reported that at approximately 4:02 PM, an electric SUV suddenly entered the sidewalk near Digital Media City Station in Sangam-dong, striking a man in his 40s.
The victim, who was trapped under the vehicle, was found in cardiac arrest by paramedics and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Driver’s Incorrect Pedal Operation Statements… Police Investigation Underway
The Mapo Police have identified the SUV driver, a woman in her 50s, as a suspect under the Traffic Accident Handling Special Act and are currently investigating her.
It has been reported that A stated during the police investigation, "I mismanaged the pedals." According to police officials, there was no indication that A was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
The police are currently focusing on securing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the vicinity of the accident site to ascertain the precise circumstances of the incident.
This accident serves as a reminder of pedestrian safety and driver negligence, raising calls for urgent measures to prevent sidewalk invasion accidents.
