Ansan City Expands Installation of AI CCTV with 'Gender Recognition' Function
On the 23rd, Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it would expand the installation of CCTV utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology in public restrooms.
Since late last year, Ansan has been operating AI gender recognition CCTVs in public restrooms to prevent sexual crimes and ensure public safety.

Currently, 45 out of 85 public restrooms located around parks and rivers have been installed with this system at the entrances of women's restrooms.
The system recognizes and analyzes the faces of entrants to determine their gender. If an individual of a different gender attempts to enter, an immediate alarm will be triggered at the Smart City Integrated Control Center of Ansan. After the alarm is received, the location and name of the restroom will be displayed on the monitoring system's operational screen.
This system works in conjunction with women's safety emergency buttons and existing illegal filming detection systems to assist in prompt police response, thereby aiding in crime prevention and the collection of evidence for later use.

Ansan plans to add another 28 AI gender recognition CCTVs to those installed between October and December of last year by the second half of this year.
A city official stated, "Recently, sexual crimes have occurred in women's restrooms of commercial buildings in other cities, leading to public restrooms being perceived as frightening places by citizens. We will continue to introduce various smart technologies into public restrooms in the future."
