Drunken Man Steals Delivery Truck and Engages in Dangerous Driving… Arrested by Police

A man in his 50s was caught by the police after stealing a delivery truck that was parked on the roadside and engaging in reckless driving.

According to a report by TV Chosun News 9 on the 23rd, the incident began on the 28th of last month when a delivery truck was stationed in a residential area of Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.

While the delivery driver stepped away to push a handcart for deliveries, a man surveyed the surroundings and approached the truck, which had no locking mechanism.

The man opened the driver's side door without any resistance, took over the truck, and left the scene.

Dangerous Road Driving with the Stolen Truck

CCTV footage and dashcam videos showed the stolen delivery truck colliding continuously with construction walls and road barriers, almost endangering pedestrians crossing at crosswalks.

After driving for about 1 km, the man parked the vehicle and fell asleep inside the truck. He was arrested in accordance with the law by police responding to reports of the stolen delivery truck.

The 50-year-old man was found to be in a serious state of intoxication, equivalent to the level that would lead to a revoked driving license.

Cha Seok-dong, the chief of the Donam Police Station in Seongbuk, stated, "The suspect did not even remember stealing the delivery vehicle, nor did he have any recollection of how he drove it."

The stolen delivery truck was discovered with a broken side mirror and severely damaged front wheels, but fortunately, the delivery items inside the truck, worth approximately 37 million won, were found to be intact.

The police detained the man on charges of drunk driving and illegal use of a vehicle, and he was sent to the prosecution.
