When the Constitutional Court unanimously ruled for the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 4th, the 'Phoenix Flag' fluttering at the Yongsan Presidential Office was also lowered.
On that day, around 11:43 AM, the Presidential Office lowered the Phoenix Flag, which had been displayed alongside the national flag in front of the main gate.
The Phoenix Flag, a symbol of the head of state, is hoisted continuously during the president's term, featuring two phoenixes facing each other with the Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) emblem in the center.

The lowering of this symbol signifies the official end of former President Yoon’s term.
After former President Yoon declared a state of emergency on December 3, 2024, the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion just 11 days later on December 14, 2024. Following 73 days and 11 hearings of legal proceedings, the Constitutional Court, after discussions and deliberation by eight judges, ruled at 11:22 AM that "the respondent, President Yoon Seok-yeol, is impeached."
"The respondent, President Yoon Seok-yeol, is impeached."
As a result, former President Yoon stepped down from his position after approximately 2 years and 11 months.
