Bae Hyun-jin Targets Hong Joon-pyo: "You Stayed Silent for Years, and Now You Speak Up"
Bae Hyun-jin, a member of the People Power Party, criticized former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo for reviving allegations about Shincheonji Church of Jesus’ involvement in the party convention.
On the 28th, Bae posted on her Facebook, "In the lead-up to the party convention, the party is in turmoil due to discussions about certain Christian cult organizations that are causing social controversies and seeking political power through various means," pointing out rumors of Shincheonji's 100,000 party members entering and the Unification Church members joining.
"The party is in turmoil due to discussions about certain Christian cult organizations that are causing social controversies and seeking political power through various means."

Bae added, "While some candidates shamelessly seek help by saying, 'Joining a political party is free; why are you being selective?', there are also seasoned souls who have kept their mouths shut for years, now heatedly accusing and slandering others, thinking that it might eventually be their turn."
The 'candidate seeking help' that Bae referred to seems to indicate Jang Dong-hyuk, a member of the People Power Party, while 'seasoned soul' points towards former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo.
Previously, Jang had remarked regarding the Shincheonji admission rumors, "They (Shincheonji) are also citizens of the Republic of Korea and can engage in political activities; any religious organization or individual can express their political opinions sufficiently and support or join any party."

Former Mayor Hong, who had previously disclosed rumors about a massive number of Shincheonji members joining, explained, "I learned of the mass admission of Shincheonji members right after the presidential primary, but I didn't disclose it until now because there were concerns over the legitimacy of the Yoon administration's launch," adding, "The reason I am revealing it now is because such phenomena are still ongoing in that party, for the future of that party."

Finally, Bae emphasized, "Our People Power Party has already suffered many wounds, but I sincerely hope it can recover to be a 'gathering of people with normal thoughts' that meets the expectations of the citizens of the Republic of Korea," stating, "Party members still hold onto hope. Those at the forefront now must not forget these sentiments."

In relation to this, Shincheonji issued a statement saying, "The representative of the Shincheonji Church has not made any remarks about joining the party; fabricating such statements to slander the church is a clear dissemination of false information, and Hong Joon-pyo should bear legal responsibility for this."
