A tragic incident occurred at the Pyeongchang Rest Area on the Yeongdong Expressway in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province, where a vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk, injuring pedestrians.

According to fire authorities, at around 1:56 PM on the 2nd, a passenger car surged onto the sidewalk from the rest area parking lot, injuring 3 pedestrians.

The vehicle involved has been identified as a Kona, driven by a person in their 70s, referred to as Mr. A.

Mr. A's vehicle suddenly crossed the curb from the parking lot and entered the sidewalk, subsequently hitting citizens who were walking.

Status of the Injured and Ongoing Police Investigation

The 3 pedestrians who were injured in the incident were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

So far, it has been confirmed that the injuries sustained by the victims are not life-threatening.

The police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and conducted tests for alcohol and drugs on Mr. A. The results indicated that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
