A Mother Runs to a Nearby Childcare Center with Her Baby Who Can’t Breathe… The Director Saves Them with ‘This’

An 8-Month-Old Baby's Life Saved by the Quick Action of a Daycare Center Director Using the Heimlich Maneuver

A mother rushed to a nearby daycare center with her 8-month-old baby, who was struggling to breathe due to a blocked airway. Fortunately, the daycare center director was able to successfully rescue the baby using the Heimlich maneuver she had learned.

On the 15th, Channel A reported on an incident that occurred at a daycare center in Dong-gu, Daegu.

According to the report, the daycare teachers rushed to the entrance. The mother entered urgently, holding her baby who was in a critical condition and unable to breathe properly.

The daycare center director, Kim Young-sook, explained, "The baby's face was showing signs of cyanosis. The area around the nose and mouth was turning blue."

Quick Emergency Care Saves Baby's Life

After assessing the situation, Director Kim immediately turned the baby onto her knee and started patting the baby's back, performing the Heimlich maneuver for a blocked airway.

Kim stated, "We conduct Heimlich maneuver and CPR training once a year. When the emergency happened, I was startled, but my body seemed to act on its own."

As she continued to pat the baby's back, the baby expelled something. It was a round sticker from a vaccination. Thanks to the quick action, the baby was able to return safely home.

Kim remarked, "I could feel the baby's face regaining color. The mother was crying at that moment, and the teachers were also in tears," expressing the relief of the moment.

The Importance of Infant Safety and Emergency Care Training

What stands out particularly is that the baby was not a student at that daycare center. The mother reportedly said she ran there because she believed the daycare would know what to do. Her decision to seek help from the daycare center in a critical situation saved her baby's life.

Infants are prone to accidents of choking on foreign objects due to their tendency to put anything in their mouths. Learning the Heimlich maneuver, which involves patting the back or applying pressure to the chest, can save precious lives.
