60-Year-Old Academy Director Sentenced to Prison for Producing Sexual Exploitation Material Targeting Middle School Students

An academy director has been sentenced to prison for producing sexual exploitation videos after providing alcohol to his middle school student.

According to News1 on the 4th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court (Chief Judge Lee Dong-sik) sentenced A (61), the director of a math academy, to six years in prison for providing alcohol to a middle school student and producing sexual exploitation videos.

In addition, the court ordered A to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and child abuse treatment programs, and imposed a restriction on employment in child, youth, and disability-related institutions for seven years.

A was indicted for producing illegal sexual exploitation material after providing alcohol to his middle school student and subsequently committing sexual assault and filming the victim nude.

Sexual Crimes Abusing Educator Status, Additional Sanctions Imposed

On May 23, during the final trial proceedings, the prosecution sought an 8-year prison sentence for A.

During his final statement, A expressed, "I am deeply sorry to the suffering victim and their family," and added, "I was not a good son, father, or husband, and I failed to be a great teacher." He also mentioned, "I long for the fish-shaped bread I shared with my family last year. It's quite shameless, but I want to eat that fish-shaped bread again. I want to walk the right path for the remainder of my time," appealing for leniency.

The court criticized A sternly, stating in the ruling document, "As the academy director, he was in a position to guide students properly and had an obligation to protect the victim in his professional capacity, yet he committed sexual abuse." The court noted that "the victim suffered significant mental trauma from the crime and the victim's parents are seeking severe punishment."

However, the court explained that it took into account the fact that the sexual exploitation material was not circulated and had been deleted, as well as A's remorse.
