A middle school student with broken ribs after being hit with a ‘baseball bat’ by a teacher in their 50s during class… When asked about the ‘reason for the assault’

Middle School Student Assaults Teacher with Baseball Bat During PE Class

A middle school student assaulted a male teacher in his 50s with a baseball bat during class, claiming that he was unhappy with the teacher's 'guidance style.'

On the 9th, the Suwon Nambu Police in Gyeonggi Province announced that they have booked the student, identified as A, for assaulting the teacher and completed the suspect investigation.

A is accused of swinging a baseball bat multiple times at the male teacher while attending physical education class on the playground of a middle school in Suwon at around 9:50 AM on the 30th of last month.

The assaulted teacher suffered injuries, including broken ribs, and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

A, who was caught by the police, reportedly stated during the investigation that he committed the crime because he was unhappy with the guidance style of the teacher.

Since A is not under the age of 14, he falls under the category of a minor subject to criminal punishment.

The police announced that they plan to transfer A to the prosecution as soon as the victim's investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, a survey released last month by the Teachers' Union Federation revealed that 6 out of 10 teachers have considered changing jobs or resigning in the past year.

Among the reasons for considering job change or resignation (multiple answers allowed), 'infringement of teaching rights and excessive complaints' topped the list at 77.5%, followed by 'low salary' (57.6%) and 'excessive workload' (27.2%).

The satisfaction score regarding teaching as a profession was only 2.9 out of 5, and when asked whether the profession of teaching is respected in society, 64.9% of respondents answered 'no.'
