A man in his 40s, who went missing in the sudden rush of water due to heavy rain in Sejong, found dead in the Geum River.

Body of a presumed missing person found near Geumgang Bridge in Sejong City

A man in his 40s, who had been swept away by heavy rain in Sejong City, was found dead after four days of searching.

According to Sejong City, the Sejong Southern Police Station, and the Fire Department, a body was discovered at around 2:19 PM on the 21st approximately 100 meters from Geumgang Bridge towards Haknarae Bridge.

The body was confirmed through drones that were deployed as part of the search operation being conducted by police and firefighters.

Reports indicate that the body was in a state of significant decomposition, making it difficult to identify visually.

Police confirmed the identity of the deceased as Mr. A, a man in his 40s who was swept away by the swift currents beneath Daejeong Bridge in Jecheon early on the 17th.

Body found after extensive search operation

Authorities had been conducting continuous search efforts since the missing person report was made. On the 21st, the fourth day of the search, a large-scale operation commenced from 9:30 AM, involving a total of 170 personnel, including members from the Sejong Police Agency's tactical unit, police aviation units from South Chungcheong and North Jeolla provinces, drone teams from Daejeon Police, as well as firefighters and members of the Marine Corps Veterans Association.

The search teams concentrated their efforts on both banks of the Geum River between Geumnam Bridge and Cheongbyeokdaegyo, where the missing person was last seen. The aviation and drone teams expanded their search area to include the vicinity of Baekje Bridge in Boryeong and the mouth of the Geum River. After these extensive search efforts, the body was finally discovered.

After confirming that a man in his 40s had been swept away by swift waters in a downtown river in Sejong City early on the 17th, police and fire authorities began full-scale searches in the riverside area of the Geum River starting the morning of the 18th.

Authorities are currently continuing their investigation to determine the exact identity of the found body and the cause of death.
