Group involved in over 120 instances of 'insurance fraud' handed over to prosecution
A group that deliberately caused accidents by targeting vehicles with clear liability on the road and received insurance payouts has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 24th, the Busan Police Agency announced the recent transfer of three individuals, a man in his 40s identified as A, a woman in her 40s identified as B, and a man in his 50s identified as C, to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on Insurance Fraud Prevention.
This group is accused of deliberately colliding with vehicles with high liability percentages in areas such as Busan, Daegu, and Gimhae, Gyeongnam, from October 2020 to October last year, and receiving approximately 400 million won in insurance payouts.
According to the police, A, who committed the crimes independently, took turns having his cohabitant B and his acquaintance C, whom he met through social connections, ride along with him to deliberately cause accidents.

A used part of the insurance money for living expenses with B and shared the remainder with C. The rest of the insurance payout was squandered on online gambling.
B and C denied all involvement in the conspiracy and intentional accidents, but the police were able to prove their charges through car black box footage and financial account checks.
A police official stated, "To prevent becoming a victim of insurance fraud, drivers should cultivate a habit of obeying traffic regulations."
He added, "Even if you become the perpetrator due to violations like changing lanes, if insurance fraud is suspected, it is very helpful to keep the black box footage for submission to the insurance company or police to assist in proving the allegations."
