A 30-year-old man spinning his girlfriend’s dog ‘Pengi’ like a top in a Busan alley… ‘This is how’ he explained himself.

A man in his 30s has been apprehended by the police for abusing a puppy by spinning it around like a top while it was on a leash in a narrow alley in Jeonpo-dong, Busan.

On the 7th, the Busan Jin Police Station reported that they have charged a man identified as A, for violating the Animal Protection Act, and have begun an investigation.

A is accused of lifting the puppy on a leash and roughly shaking it from side to side while walking in an alley in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin District, around 8 PM on the 5th. During this process, the puppy was spun in the air like a top, with its hind legs scraping against the ground.

When women who witnessed the scene intervened by asking, "Excuse me, what are you doing?", A finally put the puppy down.

As the video of this abuse spread online, it ignited outrage among many netizens, and animal protection groups continued their efforts to identify A.

Condition of the abused puppy "Saguni" and relationship with the abuser

On the 8th, the animal group "Busan Animal Love Stray Cat Protection Alliance" stated, "Through four reports, we identified the abuser's identity," and reported that they had submitted a complaint to the police at 9:30 AM the previous day and received a dedicated investigator to conduct the inquiry.

The investigation revealed that A is in a romantic relationship with the owner of the abused puppy, "Saguni." A claimed that he was "training the puppy during the incident due to biting."

In response, the group argued, "Based on observations at the rescue scene, there was no biting at all, and Saguni's owner clearly testified that there had never been any biting in the 14 years they had kept the puppy."

According to a veterinarian's diagnosis, Saguni is suspected of suffering from patellar luxation, being underweight, and having heart disease, requiring two weeks of urgent isolation.

Currently, Saguni is receiving treatment at a veterinary hospital, separated from A.

The group emphasized, "Saguni must be separated from the abuser under Article 34, Section 1, Clause 3 of the Animal Protection Act," and "under Article 10, Section 2, Clause 4 of the Animal Protection Act, causing pain using a harness for non-training purposes is clearly illegal abuse."

What is particularly shocking is that the owner of Saguni was completely unaware of her boyfriend's abusive actions.

A representative from the group stated, "The owner came asking, 'Why is Saguni in the hospital?' so we told her the truth," adding, "She trembled all over in shock." Upon learning this fact, the owner expressed her intention to leave the house she was cohabitating in with her boyfriend.

The group reported, "The female owner has expressed her desire to take full responsibility for Saguni and reunite with her," stating that they plan to provide focused support for treatment and recovery during the two-week protection period and collaborate with the owner to ensure future safety for Saguni.
