The Danger of Drunk Driving and the Trend of Enhanced Penalties
Drunk driving significantly impairs the driver's judgment and reaction speed, increasing the likelihood of major accidents. Especially in areas like overpasses and crosswalks, which are frequently used by pedestrians, such incidents can lead to severe casualties and pose a greater risk.
Currently, if a driver's blood alcohol concentration is between 0.08% and 0.2%, their driver's license is revoked, and they face a prison sentence of 1 to 2 years or a fine ranging from 5 million to 10 million won.
If the blood alcohol concentration is between 0.03% and 0.08%, the driver's license is suspended, and they face a prison sentence of up to 1 year or a fine not exceeding 5 million won.
