The movie 'Spring in Seoul' (Director Kim Sung-soo) has been selected as the Korean entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.
Only one film from each country can be submitted in the International Feature Film category, making it a highly significant section. Director Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' previously won in this category.
'Spring in Seoul' was unanimously selected by the jury as the Korean entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, garnering global attention.
The jury cited the reasons for its selection as "the film's dramatic tension, the actors' performance showcase maximized in mise-en-scène, and the director's prowess."
They also mentioned, "There was virtually no dissent regarding the 'completion of the work' for its balanced and comprehensive insight into history."
Lastly, they added, "We hope that the film's depiction of the illusion of charisma and the caricature of evil will resonate as timely metaphors for the Academy Awards."
The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held next March. Whether 'Spring in Seoul' will be shortlisted will be determined by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, 'Spring in Seoul' is based on the military coup that took place in Seoul on December 12, 1979. The film captures the nine hours aimed at preventing the new military forces' rebellion.
