Actor Ra Mi-ran has transformed into a charismatic female leader.

On the 3rd, tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Jeong Nyeon’ (written by Choi Hyo-bi, directed by Jeong Ji-in) released its first still of Ra Mi-ran (as Kang So-bok).

Kang So-bok is the leader of the Maeran National Theater Troupe. She made a name for herself as a sori singer and started the theater troupe by gathering female traditional musicians, opening a golden age of national theater.

She is a cold and strict figure. She is strict with her disciples but even stricter with herself. She holds the greatest influence in the national theater scene in the 1950s.

Ra Mi-ran exudes the force of a female leader commanding the national theater scene. She emits a heavy aura in a calm, achromatic hanbok.

In particular, the image of her crossing her arms and inspecting rehearsals in the middle of an empty audience was striking, with her tiger-like sharp gaze.

The production team of ‘Jeong Nyeon’ stated, “Ra Mi-ran is an actor who needs no words. With her irreplaceable presence, she brought weight to ‘Jeong Nyeon’.”

They continued, “Before Kang So-bok was the leader of the Maeran National Theater Troupe, she was a sori singer. Her backstory will be another key aspect of the storyline.”

‘Jeong Nyeon’ is set in the aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s. It depicts the competition, solidarity, and brilliant growth of Jeong Nyeon, a born genius in traditional singing.

It grabbed attention with its fresh subject of female national theater. Director Jeong Ji-in of ‘The Red Sleeve’ took the helm. Kim Tae-ri plays the main character Yoon Jeong-nyeon.

The cast includes Shin Ye-eun (as Heo Yeong-seo), Jeong Eun-chae (as Moon Ok-kyung), Kim Yun-hye (as Seo Hye-rang), Moon So-ri (as Seo Yong-rye), and Lee Deok-hwa (as Gong Seon-bo).

‘Jeong Nyeon’ will premiere on October 12 at 9:20 p.m.
