Actress Kim Tae-ri has transformed into a genius singer from Mokpo. tvN's new weekend drama "Jeong-nyeoni" (written by Choi Hyo-bi, directed by Jeong Ji-in) released Kim Tae-ri's first stills on the 27th. Kim Tae-ri takes on the role of "Yoon Jeong-nyeon," a born singing genius from Mokpo.
"Jeong-nyeoni" is set in the post-Korean War 1950s. The naturally gifted singer Jeong-nyeoni aspires to become the best national opera actress. The drama explores the competition, camaraderie, and radiant growth surrounding her journey.
The stills depict Kim Tae-ri in her unadorned appearance. She is seen selling fish in a fishing village in Mokpo, filled with the scent of the sea. She portrays a neighborhood boss-like aura, dressed in a simple hanbok top and sporting short-cropped hair.
There are also scenes of her sitting in the audience, watching a national opera performance. Kim Tae-ri's eyes capture the fluttering emotions as if she's completely mesmerized by the spectacle before her. Another still shows her practicing dance against the backdrop of the clear blue sky.
Yoon Jeong-nyeon is a genius singer who comes to Seoul alone from Mokpo to become a national opera actress. She possesses an innate tone, rich volume, a wide vocal range that freely traverses high and low notes, and deeply emotive expressions.
Jeong-nyeoni has all the fundamental qualities of a singer. She has strong survival skills, an indomitable spirit, and is affable and unreserved. With a terrifyingly strong affinity for making friends with anyone, she is an exceptionally charismatic character.
Original authors Seo I-re and Na Mon have expressed extraordinary trust in Kim Tae-ri's portrayal of Yoon Jeong-nyeoni. Kim Tae-ri is also the real-life muse for the original work. Hearing the news of her casting, they said, "It felt surreal, like we couldn't believe it was actually happening."
Director Jeong Ji-in praised, "Yoon Jeong-nyeon, as played by Kim Tae-ri, may slightly deviate from traditional national opera but showcases a different dimension of charm. She acted so well, it felt like meeting an artist from beyond the horizon."
"Jeong-nyeoni" is set to premiere at 9:20 PM on October 12th.
