Actor Kim Soo-hyun has been cast to play the King of the Counterfeit World. Disney Plus's new series "Knockoff" is set to release in 2025. The production team announced Kim Soo-hyun's participation on the 26th. Cho Bo-ah is also expected to join the cast.
"Knockoff" tells the story of a man whose life is completely changed by MF. It depicts his transformation from an ordinary office worker to the king of the global counterfeit market.
Kim Soo-hyun will play the role of 'Kim Sung-joon'. After losing his job due to the IMF crisis, he steps into the world of counterfeits and becomes the vice president of the counterfeit market 'Spring Water Market'.
The character promises to be unique. Kim Sung-joon possesses exceptional intellect, quick thinking, and intense ambition. He evolves into the king of the counterfeit market, not just in Korea but worldwide.
An official stated, "Kim Soo-hyun has proven his acting skills and popularity with works like 'The Queen of Tears', 'It's Okay to Not Be Okay', and 'My Love from the Star'. His talent is expected to shine once again this time."
Cho Bo-ah will play 'Song Hye-jung', a special judicial police officer dedicated to cracking down on counterfeit goods. She is also Kim Sung-joon's former lover. The two engage in a constant chase, with Kim as the king of the counterfeit world.
The production team emphasized, "This is the first time Kim Soo-hyun and Cho Bo-ah will be acting together. Look forward to the fresh visual chemistry and the new dynamic their performances will create."
"Knockoff" is directed by Park Hyun-seok, who previously directed "The Thief: Sound of the Sword" and "Secret Forest 2". The script is written by Han Jung-hoon, known for "Bad Guys" and "Squad 38".
