Lee Joo-hyung, a PD (35) who participated in directing "Three Meals A Day" and "New Journey to the West," suddenly passed away in a car accident.
On the night of the 22nd, Lee took a taxi. At 12:26 a.m., the taxi struck a parked tour bus and then collided with a compact car while driving on World Cup Road in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
PD Lee, who was in the taxi, died at the scene. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries. The police have booked the taxi driver on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.
Lee was on his way home after working overtime when the accident occurred. It is known that his first child was due to be born this December.
Na Young-seok, Shin Hyo-jung, Park Hyun-yong, Yoon In-hoe, and other PDs from "New Journey to the West" left their condolences. They remembered, "PD Lee Joo-hyung was a sincere junior who always ran with a great sense of responsibility and did his best until the end."
They added, "We will remember his place, where the lights were always the first to turn on and where he meticulously checked and arranged everything necessary for the program."
The funeral is being held in Room 6 of the funeral hall at Guro Sungshim Hospital in Guro-gu, Seoul. The procession is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 24th.
PD Lee joined CJ ENM tvN as a production PD in 2016. He participated in directing "Three Meals A Day in Gochang," "New Journey to the West" seasons 2 and 3, "Great Escape 4," "Korean Monster," "Moment of Truth", and "Comedy Big League."
Last July, he transferred to the video production company Borderless Film, which was acquired by Coupang Play. He participated in the production of the sports documentary "Full Count," released on Disney+.
