Actress Jeon Hye-jin brings stories of working moms to life. Studio Genie confirmed the casting for its new drama 'Riding Life' (written by Sung Yoon-ah and Jo Won-dong, directed by Kim Chul-kyu) on the 22nd. Jeon Hye-jin, Jo Min-soo, Jung Jin-young, and Jeon Seok-ho will join forces.
'Riding Life' is a reality-inspired drama. The main characters are a mother who was a single mom and the daughter who grew up as a working mom. The story unfolds as the two women board the 'Riding Life'.
The series is a dramatisation of a novel of the same name. It sheds light on aspects of our society such as private education and twilight child-rearing. The highly immersive story is expected to offer comfort and inspiration.
First, Jeon Hye-jin will play 'Lee Jung-eun', adding depth to the working moms' narrative. Jung-eun is a beauty industry marketer who doesn’t want to fall behind when it comes to her 7-year-old daughter's education.
As a child, she matured early to support her busy mother. Now married and raising a daughter, she expresses her long-hidden resentment toward her mother. Jeon Hye-jin aims to transform her image once again.
Jo Min-soo will play Jeon Hye-jin's mother, 'Yoon Ji-ah'. Ji-ah is a child art therapist at a university hospital. She raised Jung-eun without a husband. At Jung-eun's request, she begins to take her granddaughter to and from cram school. She encounters a whole new world in her life.
Jung Jin-young will have a romantic storyline with Jo Min-soo. He will portray 'Lee Young-wook', an English literature professor. Young-wook meets Ji-ah while ferrying his grandchild to the same cram school. He finds excitement in his previously mundane twilight years.
Jeon Seok-ho will play Jeon Hye-jin's husband, 'Hong Jae-man'. Jae-man is a home shopping MD. He's a childish husband who gets scolded by his wife daily. At work, he struggles with poor performance. However, he runs to his family's side whenever needed.
A group of trusted actors has assembled. Adding to this, director Kim Chul-kyu will showcase his directing prowess. PD Kim has been recognized for both artistic and commercial success with dramas like 'Hwang Jini', 'Daemul', 'On the Way to the Airport', 'Chicago Typewriter', 'Mother', 'Confession', 'Flower of Evil', and 'Celebrity'.
Notably, he won Best Director in the TV category at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for 'Flower of Evil'. With 'Mother', he entered the official competition section at the 1st Cannes International Series Festival. 'Riding Life' promises to be another well-made production.
'Riding Life' has started filming and is expected to be released in the first half of next year.
