Actor Choi Minho captivates the small screen with his fresh melodramatic acting. On the afternoon of the 9th, JTBC's new weekend drama 'Family X Melodrama' held an online production presentation. Choi Minho, Director Kim Da-ye, Ji Jin-hee, Kim Ji-soo, Son Na-eun, and Yoon San-ha attended the event. 'Family X Melodrama' is a family melodrama. It tells the story of a father, who was abandoned 11 years ago, returning as the landlord of the family's building.
Director Kim Da-ye introduced the drama, saying, "It's about a father who was abandoned due to his obsession with business, returning as a landlord after 11 years." She added, "The competition between the father, who wants to make things right with his ex-wife, and the daughter, who tries to block him, is very cute."
Choi Minho plays the role of 'Nam Tae-pyeong,' who lives by his own rules. He described his character as "a passionate young man in Korea who lives diligently with his own way of thinking."
Tae-pyeong is a unique character with three different identities. He is the youngest son of the conglomerate family 'J Plus Mart,' but he keeps his identity secret. He leads a busy life alternating between a Taekwondo instructor and a security guard at the mart. Director Kim explained the casting, saying, "I thought playing a stoic yet straightforward and simple character would showcase his unexpected charms. I believe he will become the character that viewers fall in love with the most."
Choi Minho perfectly immersed himself in the character. He mentioned, “Tae-pyeong has pains that others don't know about. I thought it would be good to express those pains through my eyes.”
The chemistry with Son Na-eun is also something to anticipate. Son Na-eun plays the role of 'Byeon Mi-rae,' an MD at J Plus Mart. She is a character who engages in a nerve war with X-Dad, with her mother at the center.
Tae-pyeong and Mi-rae share the commonality of having complex family backgrounds. They come to understand each other's secrets and pains and grow together based on empathy. They also present a fresh and exciting romance.
Choi Minho recalled, “While filming a fresh melodrama, there were parts that felt awkward and excited me as well. I had a sense of challenge, thinking I should do well, so I worked hard during the filming.”
He added, "It was fun to confess my feelings while getting closer to Mi-rae. Since he is a character who comes to know the feeling of love, I felt proud yet saddened by him."
Finally, Director Kim said, “There are various aspects of family. This work raises the question of whether only a stereotypical form is a family. It's a drama that combines humor with touching emotions."
She also hoped for viewers' expectations, saying, "I think capturing the warmth of a family as a supporting system when each person lives their own life and falls is the virtue of the drama."
Meanwhile, 'Family X Melodrama' will air its first episode at 10:30 PM on the 10th.
