Actors Kim Yoo-jung and Kim Young-dae showcase the essence of a romantic thriller. TVING's original series "Dear X" (written by Choi Ja-won, directed by Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun) has completed its lineup. Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, Kim Do-hoon, and Lee Yeol-eum have been confirmed to star.
"Dear X" is based on a popular webtoon. It tells the cruel yet beautiful story of Baek Ah-jin, a woman who wears a mask to survive, and Yoon Joon-seo, a man who wishes to save her.
Director Lee Eung-bok, known for "Sweet Home," "Mr. Sunshine," "Goblin," and "Descendants of the Sun," leads the series. Writer Choi Ja-won, who won the grand prize in the 2018 KBS Drama Script Contest, is in charge of the script.
Kim Yoo-jung takes on the role of Baek Ah-jin, a top actress in South Korea who hides a cruel nature behind her beautiful face. She transforms drastically for this character, who has climbed to the top by stepping over the scars of a perilous childhood. She excels at reading and manipulating others, but as she reaches the peak, everything begins to crumble.
Kim Yoo-jung shared, "As I read the original work and the script, the more I got to know the characters living in the story, the more attractive the project felt. I will work hard to present a good piece."
Kim Young-dae plays Yoon Joon-seo, a man who has stayed by Ah-jin's side all his life. For Baek Ah-jin, he would walk through any mire and destroy everything for love.
Kim Young-dae said, "I am genuinely happy to join the drama. I will take on the responsibility and do my utmost best," adding, "I am preparing to show you great acting."
Kim Do-hoon portrays Kim Jae-oh, Baek Ah-jin's blind trainer. Jae-oh supports Ah-jin in a way that is different from Yoon Joon-seo. He has survived harshly, enduring the abuse of his father who was obsessed with a cult. He found a reason to live in Ah-jin, who shared similar pains. He willingly becomes her shadow.
Kim Do-hoon said, "I am very excited because the webtoon and drama script are fascinating." He continued, "I am thankful for casting me in such a great work. I will do my best to create an enjoyable drama with good synergy with the production team and fellow actors."
Lee Yeol-eum takes on the role of Lena, an idol-turned-actress who has become a top star thanks to her outstanding visuals and luck. Despite controversies around her acting skills, her optimistic nature keeps her from feeling discouraged.
Baek Ah-jin and Yoon Joon-seo, who shake her mental state, appear in front of Lena. The more she loves Joon-seo, the more she realizes she can't reach him, falling into an endless one-sided love.
Lee Yeol-eum shared, "I will work hard to show better acting and a more matured version of myself through this project," asking for "lots of love and interest."
"Dear X" will be released on TVING next year.
