“Is Age Just a Number in Love?”… KBS Plans a Younger Man Matching Program

KBS's planned couple matching program has encountered controversy even before its launch. The premise, where a woman in her 30s seeks a "cute sexy guy" in his 20s, has sparked a debate.

According to KBS's external production proposal, the show titled "Noona is a Woman to Me" (tentative title) is set to air in October. It is a variety show focused on matching couples between women in their late 30s and men in their 20s.

The issue lies in the intent of the concept. The proposal states that "a self-managed gold miss in her late 30s and a passionate, youthful 'cute sexy' younger man will stay together and search for their partners."

This has been criticized for defining female participants by their age and marital status while seemingly reducing male participants to mere physical appearances. There are responses that suggest this format is unfit for a public broadcaster.

Concerns have also been raised about promoting distorted views on relationships. According to broadcasting insiders, the basic setup and some casting for the program have already been completed.

However, KBS clarified on the 29th to 'Dispatch' that "the planning of the proposal is far from the producers' intentions. The person in charge of the post has written the planning intent based on personal interpretation."

They added, "We plan to capture the honest romantic journeys of women who have not found love due to their career pursuits and men who believe that age is merely a number when it comes to love," cautioning against excessive interpretations.
