Huntress is reuniting. Production of the Netflix movie 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (hereinafter 'KDEH') sequel has gained momentum.
The American outlet 'Variety' reported on the 27th (Korean time) that Sony and Netflix have entered discussions for the production of 'KDEH' (directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Apfelhans).
Director Maggie Kang is also positive about the production of 'KDEH 2'. She stated, "I have prepared the backstories of the characters. There are still many unresolved questions and unexplored areas."
'KDEH' was released on June 20. It has transcended being just an animated work and has become a cultural phenomenon. The event-driven theatrical release in North America led to securing the top spot at the local box office.
It is also the most-watched movie on Netflix. As of the 27th, the film recorded a cumulative 236 million views (the viewing time divided by the runtime).
The original soundtrack (OST) has also created a sensation. The 'KDEH' OST placed four songs in the top 10 of the Billboard 'Hot 100' (as of the 30th). This is a historic achievement for Billboard.
Huntress' 'Golden' and Lion Boys' 'Your Idol' and 'Soda Pop', along with Huntress' 'How It's Done', made it onto the charts.
Long-term box office success is anticipated. Notably, the popularity of 'KDEH' shows no signs of waning, with projections suggesting it may surpass the globally mega-hit animated film 'Frozen'.
Meanwhile, Netflix plans to submit 'Golden' for the 'Best Original Song' category at next year's Academy Awards.
