He also shared an article highlighting Officer Lee's remarkable actions.
Police Officer's Professional Spirit Shines Even During Vacation
Officer Lee Jin-woong, belonging to the phishing crime investigation team at the Daejeon Western Police Station, apprehended a man in his 30s suspected of collecting cash for a voice phishing scam on the 13th, even while on vacation.
At that time, Officer Lee was waiting in his vehicle after ordering food at a nearby shop.
Noticing a man suspiciously looking around and taking photos of the building, he followed the man and witnessed the victim handing over a paper bag in a residential complex.
Taking immediate action, Officer Lee apprehended the man on the spot, finding 17 million won in cash inside the paper bag.
He promptly reported to the police and informed the victim about the crime. The police recovered the cash at the scene and returned it to the victim.
The arrested man, referred to as A, is being investigated on charges of violating the 'Telecommunication Fraud Victim Compensation Law' and reportedly claimed he was there to do a part-time job paying 50,000 won per case.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the government announced a comprehensive plan to eradicate voice phishing during a task force meeting led by Yoon Chang-ryeol, the Director of the Government Policy Coordination Office, held at the Government Complex Seoul.
The comprehensive plan includes a legislative measure that holds financial institutions responsible for compensating voice phishing victims.
