Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr. will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Walt Disney Company participated in Comic Con held in San Diego, USA, on the 28th (Korean time). They introduced the schedule for upcoming MCU projects.

There was also a surprise announcement. Downey Jr. is returning as the villain Doctor Victor Von Doom (hereinafter referred to as Doctor Doom). The audience cheered when he unmasked.

Downey Jr. will appear in the new 'Avengers' series. The new title is 'Avengers: Secret Wars'. It is scheduled to be released in 2027 following 'Avengers: Doomsday'.

The Doctor Doom he will portray is one of the strongest villains within the MCU. He possesses power comparable to Thanos. Not only power, but his intelligence, magic, and other abilities are also superior.

Downey Jr. also made comments about Doctor Doom. He raised expectations by saying, "New mask, same mission. I love playing complex characters."

Directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo will also return to Marvel. The two will helm both 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars'.

Director Joe Russo said, "We thought 'Avengers: Endgame' would be the last. The four films we made were excellent, and we poured our creativity into them."

However, they had to come back. They were persuaded by Marvel's 'special story'. He shared the reason for accepting, saying, "This is why Anthony and I are here."

Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. said goodbye to Marvel after the release of 'Avengers: Endgame' in 2019.
