According to various foreign media outlets, including the British Independent, the White House shared a photo on its official social media channels from the meeting held the previous day in Washington, featuring President Trump alongside European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the photo, President Trump is seen seated alone at the desk of the Oval Office, while other leaders are arranged in a semicircle without a table, facing Trump.

The photo includes notable European figures such as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, President Zelensky, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Seating Arrangement Conflicting with International Diplomatic Norms

In international diplomacy, the use of round tables without a head seat is customary when multiple national leaders gather. This arrangement symbolizes equality among participants and is an important diplomatic gesture.

However, the photograph released by the White House depicts President Trump as the only leader seated at the head, leading to diplomatic criticism.

The White House published the photo along with the phrase "Peace through strength," stating, "It was a historic day as European leaders gathered with President Trump in the Oval Office" and added that "President Trump is the President of Peace."

This photo has prompted considerable backlash across Europe.

The British Independent reported that some local netizens perceived Trump as chastising misbehaving students. European netizens expressed critical opinions, stating, "This is an incredibly rude scene," "I wonder why the European leaders allowed this humiliating situation," and "Was there no one among the European leaders who could refuse such seating arrangement? This is one of the most embarrassing scenes since the establishment of the European Union."

Meanwhile, this photograph is being interpreted as symbolically representative of the diplomatic and security policies of the Trump administration's second term.

The second term of the Trump administration adopted a strategy of "peace through strength," which pressures adversaries based on overwhelming military and economic power. This seating arrangement is viewed as visually expressing such U.S. diplomatic stance.
