Han Moon-hee, the CEO of Korail, has expressed his resignation while acknowledging his responsibility regarding the train accident that occurred in Cheongdo, North Gyeongsang Province.
According to Korail and related officials on the 21st, Han delivered his intention to resign to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, reflecting his accountability for the Cheongdo train accident. However, his resignation has not yet been accepted.
Han took office as the CEO of Korail in July 2023, following the inauguration of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, with his official term set to last until July 23 of the following year. Regarding the incident, Han expressed, "I sincerely apologize to the bereaved families and the public for the train workers' accident," conveying a heavy sense of responsibility.

Inspection of Railway Safety Management Systems and Development of Prevention Measures
Korail stated that it will make every effort to support the bereaved families and the injured individuals following this incident. Additionally, it plans to actively cooperate with related agencies to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident.
Korail emphasized its commitment to developing fundamental measures to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
The accident occurred on the 19th at around 10:50 AM between Namseonghyeon Station and Cheongdo Station on the Gyeongbu Line.

The 1903 Mugunghwa train was involved in an incident while contacting workers who were conducting safety checks on the slopes in the disaster-stricken area.
As a result of the accident, two people lost their lives, and five others suffered serious injuries.
Among the seven workers affected by the incident, one was an employee of Korail, while the remaining six were confirmed to be affiliated with a subcontractor specializing in structural safety inspections.
