Examples of 'Incorrect Taegukgi' Being Used Around the World
Concerns have been raised about the improper use of the Taegukgi in various places globally, from the Tottenham club's social media to a tour bus in Dubai.
On the 20th, Professor Seok Young-deok of Sungshin Women's University announced that many reports of 'incorrect Taegukgi' being used worldwide have been received, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

According to the cases revealed by Professor Seok, the English Premier League (EPL) club Tottenham posted a poster on their official Instagram on the 15th, featuring fans waving the Taegukgi while wearing Tottenham jerseys, along with the Korean phrase, "Congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Korea's liberation."
However, the Taegukgi used in this poster had many inaccuracies in the arrangement of its symbols (geon-gon-gam-ri), which disappointed many Koreans.
The use of incorrect Taegukgi can also be found at major tourist destinations abroad.
Professor Seok expressed gratitude that they remembered Korea's liberation day despite Son Heung-min's absence, noting, "It is very appreciative that they posted this, but the incorrect rendering of multiple Taegukgi creates a sense of disappointment."

In addition to the Tottenham case, incorrectly depicted Taegukgi were also confirmed to be in use on the city tour buses in Dubai, a popular destination for tourists, and at the customs area of Mexico City's airport.
Regarding this situation, Professor Seok emphasized that "there are still many places around the world where 'incorrect Taegukgi' is used," and stated that rather than simply criticizing the misuse, it is important to "provide accurate information so corrective actions can be taken promptly."
