Gangnam Parking Lot Drunk Driving Incident: A Drunk Friend Arrested for Driving Instead

A bizarre drunk driving incident occurred in a restaurant parking lot in Gangnam.

It was confirmed that a friend behind the wheel, who took over for the man involved in the accident, was also intoxicated.

According to TV Chosun on the 19th, on the evening of the 16th, a man in his 40s, who was under the influence of alcohol, drove a vehicle in the parking lot and made contact with a wall.

CCTV footage released shows a gray vehicle backing up toward the wall of the underground parking lot and hesitating momentarily.

The footage also captured a man outside the car quickly checking the rear of the vehicle before signaling to the friend in the driver's seat to get out.

After the first driver, who stumbled out of the car, the friend outside took the driver's seat and moved the vehicle out of the parking lot.

"Since my friend caused the accident, I should drive"… Both were intoxicated.

After leaving the parking lot, the two men called a designated driver to take them together.

However, during this process, the man who caused the initial accident called the police, and as a result, the police apprehended the two men who were riding in a vehicle driven by a designated driver in the middle of Gangnam.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the driver responsible for the initial accident was at a level of intoxication that warranted license cancellation, while the friend who drove the vehicle was found to be at a level of intoxication that warranted license suspension.

An eyewitness at the scene told the media, “It seemed like they were arguing with each other. It looked like they were saying, 'Why are you driving?' They left the car on the sidewalk and called a designated driver from there."

The police plan to charge both men with drunk driving and conduct further investigations.
