Yoon, who received ophthalmology treatment at an external hospital, “delayed treatment resulted in vision deterioration to the level of blindness.”

Law Ministry's 'No Issues' Opinion, but Yoon's Side Still Claims "Risk of Blindness"

Recently, former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has been incarcerated in Seoul Detention Center, received ophthalmological treatment at an external hospital, citing "risk of blindness" as the reason. His side asserted that "due to not receiving treatment in a timely manner, his vision has deteriorated to a level where he is at risk of blindness."

On the 17th, Channel A reported that former President Yoon, who suffers from diabetic retinopathy, still claims to be at "risk of blindness" even after undergoing a procedure on the 14th.

According to the report, Yoon's team emphasized that because he only received treatment after a delay of three months, despite needing it every one to two months, he has received multiple opinions from his doctor stating that "the risk of blindness is high."

Regarding former President Yoon's health condition, the Law Ministry has stated that "there are no issues with his health."

On that day, the Law Ministry released a statement saying, "It is hard to view former President Yoon's health condition as very bad," and "the claim that he is at risk of blindness due to not receiving necessary treatment is also not true."

According to the Law Ministry, this conclusion was reached after considering all results from former President Yoon's outpatient treatment on the 14th.

Meanwhile, former President Yoon, who is imprisoned on charges of 'insurrection mastermind,' has not attended either of the two ongoing criminal trials due to 'health reasons.'

In addition, according to the Democratic Party's Special Committee for Comprehensive Response to the Third Special Prosecutor, former President Yoon has met with 348 visitors during his entire detention period at Seoul Detention Center, totaling 395 hours and 18 minutes, sparking allegations of preferential treatment.

In response, the Law Ministry has suspended the use of a private meeting room for former President Yoon and is changing the head of the Seoul Detention Center. However, it is understood that exercise and showering will continue to be conducted separately from other inmates to maintain order within the facility.

The Law Ministry's Correctional Headquarters is currently investigating whether there were any privileges granted to former President Yoon during his detention.
