President Lee couldn’t use ‘consumption coupons’ at the market he visited yesterday… When asked about the reason, Mrs. Kim Hye-kyung burst into laughter.

Surprise Market Visit After Movie Screening

On the last day of the Liberation Day holiday yesterday (17th), President Lee Jae-myung visited the Yongsan CGV with his spouse, First Lady Kim Hye-kyung, to watch the recently released movie "Independence Army: The Ongoing War."

Instead of heading to the presidential residence, they visited Yeonseong Market in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, to meet with merchants and residents.

On that day, Kim Yu-jeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced in a written briefing, "Merchants and residents at the market greeted the presidential couple with great applause and smiles." When a resident at the site raised concerns about the installation of a disability school in Eunpyeong-gu, President Lee stopped to listen attentively.

President Lee also visited a underwear store to verify the impact of consumer coupons personally. A merchant who has been selling for 50 years stated, "The consumer coupon effect is quite good," while a young vendor selling corn made everyone laugh by saying, "My dad is a fan of the president, but he doesn't answer his calls."

Purchasing Daily Necessities with Onnuri Gift Certificates

First Lady Kim Hye-kyung purchased daily necessities such as pajamas and slippers, as well as cold pork items using Onnuri gift certificates. The owner of a blood sausage shop, who has been in business at the market since her twenties, proudly mentioned that her store was designated as a "Hundred-Year Store" and stated, "Thanks to the consumer recovery coupons, sales have significantly increased."

In response, President Lee said, "My wife has used all of my coupons at Incheon Gyeyangsan Market," adding, "The economy of our country will thrive only if small business owners and self-employed individuals survive."

In fact, Kim visited Incheon Gyeyangsan Market on the 25th of last month and made purchases there.

President Lee urged Kim Mi-kyung, mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, "Please check if there are any areas affected by the flood and if the recovery is going well."

Observing the Taegeukgi at Jingwan Temple

After the market visit, the presidential couple went to Jingwan Temple in Eunpyeong-gu, where they viewed the "Jingwan Temple Taegeukgi," which features a Taegeuk pattern painted over the Japanese flag during the Japanese colonial era, as well as the Independence Newspaper.

They then participated in an evening meal prepared by Master Chef Gye-ho, known for temple food.
