Independence Hall Director: “Liberation was a gift from the Allied Forces”… Democratic Kim Byung-ki: “Complete nonsense, must be dismissed immediately”

Kim Byung-ki, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, strongly criticized remarks made by Kim Hyung-seok, the director of the Independence Hall, regarding the liberation of Korea, demanding his immediate dismissal.

On the 16th, Kim expressed strong regret through his Facebook about Kim Hyung-seok's statement that "when viewed from a global historical perspective, liberation is a gift obtained through the victory of the Allied forces."

Kim emphasized, "It is ridiculous that someone who casually spouts nonsense is the director of the Independence Hall," urging the government to immediately dismiss Kim Hyung-seok. This statement appears to reflect a serious concern that such remarks undermine the history of Korea's independence movement and the meaning of liberation.

Strong criticism of the denial of the independence movement

Kim intensified his criticisms by specifically addressing the actions of Kim Hyung-seok. He stated, "What Kim Hyung-seok, appointed by Yoon Seok-youl last year, has done is completely deny the independence movement," adding that "last year on Liberation Day, the first Independence Hall commemoration since its opening was canceled, and this year he belittled the anti-Japanese independence struggle in his commemorative speech."

In particular, Kim expressed concerns about the impact of the denial of the independence movement on national identity and the future.

He countered, "If we allow the treachery that denies the independence movement, how can we ask the people for sacrifices for the nation during a crisis, and who will be dedicated?" underscoring the importance of historical awareness.

Finally, he asserted, "I feel an overwhelming anger toward Kim Hyung-seok, who flaps his tongue citing legal rights," declaring, "Anyone who insults the martyrs has no right to live on this land." This is interpreted as a firm stance against remarks that undermine the historical significance of liberation and the independence movement.
