Accident with Hit-and-Run Incident in Front of an Apartment in Mapo
The Seoul Mapo Police Station announced that they have urgently arrested a man in his 60s, referred to as A, on charges of causing death due to a hit-and-run under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
On the 16th, A is accused of hitting a man in his 70s, referred to as B, who was lying on the road in front of a large apartment complex in Mapo-gu around 1 a.m. that day and fleeing the scene without providing aid. B was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away.
The police analyzed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and confirmed that A drove his SUV over B without taking any action and headed towards the apartment parking lot. Following this, the police tracked A's residence and proceeded with the urgent arrest.
Claiming "I Was Unaware of the Accident"… Police Plan to Apply for an Arrest Warrant
No signs of alcohol or drug use were detected on A at the time of his arrest.
He is reported to have stated during the police investigation that he was unaware of having caused an accident. The police plan to secure the black box footage from A's vehicle to verify the credibility of his statement.
A police official stated, "We plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A."
