Kim Moon-soo Candidate Starts Indefinite Sit-in Against Special Prosecutor's Seizure Operation
As the National Power Party's leadership election is in full swing, candidate Kim Moon-soo has embarked on an indefinite sit-in.
Candidate Kim has been staging the sit-in since the night of the 13th in the lobby on the first floor of the National Power Party headquarters.
This is a strong response aimed at preventing the seizure operation conducted by the Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki's team, which is investigating allegations related to First Lady Kim Geon-hee.

In a press release on the same day, Kim stated, "To stop the illegal and unjust seizure operation against the National Power Party and to protect the central party headquarters and the party member list, I will begin an indefinite sit-in in the first-floor lobby of the party headquarters today at 11:30 PM."
He condemned the "outrageous Special Prosecutor conducting a seizure unrelated to criminal charges during the party convention," claiming, "This is a heinous act of 'opposition party eradication' and a serious challenge to the constitution that protects political parties."
He further declared, "I announce that I will fight against this with all the party members with my whole body."

Special Prosecutor and National Power Party in Standoff for Over 12 Hours
Earlier, the special prosecutor's team entered the National Power Party headquarters around 11 AM but faced resistance from party members and officials gathered there, resulting in a standoff lasting more than 12 hours.
This seizure is reported to aim at securing the party member list and cross-referencing it with the list of Unification Church members to verify the facts regarding allegations involving lawmakers such as Kwon Seong-dong in the Unification Church and Geunjin Beopsa solicitation scandal.
After completing a joint speech session in Daejeon for the Chungcheong and Honam regions, candidate Kim immediately moved to protest at the Yeouido headquarters where the seizure operation was ongoing.
In front of reporters, he criticized strongly, saying, "The Special Prosecutor is acting as a political accomplice to the criminal Lee Jae-myung, destroying and dissolving the National Power Party," and added, "The judicial system of the Republic of Korea has completely collapsed."

While the ruling party claims that the special prosecutor's seizure is a legitimate investigative procedure, the National Power Party strongly rebuffs it, arguing that conducting the seizure during the important political schedule of a party convention is politically motivated.
It remains to be seen how candidate Kim Moon-soo's sit-in will affect the National Power Party's convention and how the special prosecutor's investigation will unfold.
