Threat of Bombing the Seoul Detention Center Where Former President Yoon Seok-yeol is Imprisoned

A man in his 50s, who threatened to bomb the Seoul Detention Center where former President Yoon Seok-yeol is imprisoned, was urgently arrested by the police on the 12th.

The Anyang Manan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they detained Mr. A on charges of public threat and is currently under investigation.

Mr. A allegedly made a threatening call to the police Civilian Complaint Call Center (182) around 4:27 AM on the 12th, stating, "I will bring something to the Seoul Detention Center where former President Yoon Seok-yeol is and blow it up."

The call center operator who received the threat immediately reported it to 112.

The police responded swiftly and apprehended Mr. A around 5:18 AM, approximately 50 minutes after the report, near the residence of Mr. A's acquaintance in the Manan District of Anyang City.

Threats of terror against public facilities are serious crimes that significantly threaten public safety, and the police took rapid action to prevent further danger.

Status of the Threat Suspect's Investigation and Former President Yoon Seok-yeol's Detention

A police official stated, "Mr. A was asleep after being apprehended and has not yet been investigated," adding, "We will confirm details about his alcohol consumption, motive for the crime, and the circumstances of the incident later."

Currently, the police are reportedly conducting a thorough investigation into Mr. A’s exact motive for the crime, its feasibility, and whether there are any additional accomplices.

Meanwhile, former President Yoon Seok-yeol has been detained in the Seoul Detention Center since being indicted and arrested on charges of obstructing special public duty and abusing authority on the 19th of last month.
