A miracle occurred as the 119 rescue team arrived on the congested highway… They secured the golden time.

Citizens' Voluntary 'Road Opening' Provides Significant Assistance for Quick Patient Transport and Fire Suppression

A case has been revealed where citizens' voluntary 'road opening' actions on a congested highway aided the swift access of fire engines during an emergency situation.

The Jeonbuk Fire Station released a video today showing drivers collaborating to clear a path for fire vehicles at the scene of a four-car collision that occurred on the Honam Expressway near Geumsan-myeon, Gimje, on the 7th.

According to the fire authorities, the incident was a major accident involving the sequential collision of four vehicles, including passenger cars and a cargo truck. Three people were injured, including one seriously, and a fire broke out in the cargo truck.

However, thanks to the quick cooperation of citizens in opening the road, the fire truck was able to arrive quickly on the scene, and the fire was completely extinguished within 25 minutes, with all injured individuals safely transported to the hospital.

Citizens' Swift Cooperation in Road Opening

Correct 'Road Opening' Method in Emergencies

Through this case, the Jeonbuk Fire Station emphasized the correct 'road opening' methods depending on road conditions and forms when emergency vehicles are approaching.

On intersections or one-way roads, as well as on single-lane roads, vehicles should be moved to the right edge.

In the case of a one-way two-lane road, it is important to clear the innermost lane.

Especially on roads with three or more lanes, like the one where this accident occurred, the correct method is to clear the second lane and move vehicles to both sides.

The released video showed drivers immediately stopping their cars to clear the central lane as soon as the fire truck entered the road.

The fire authorities emphasized that such cooperation from citizens is very effective in the transport of emergency patients and response to emergencies.

The Jeonbuk Fire Station plans to conduct a simulated fire drill at 15 fire stations across the province on the 20th and will guide citizens on 'road opening' techniques for various situations.

Through this, they hope that more citizens will learn and practice the correct responses in emergency situations.
