Secretive 'Three Family Members Found Dead' Daegu Apartment Fire

In a fire that occurred in an apartment in Shinchon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, three family members have died, and their registered address has been confirmed to be an apartment located in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu.

On the 11th, News1 reported that the deceased, a 46-year-old man A and his two children, were confirmed to reside in an apartment in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, after the fire that broke out at 3:35 AM on the 10th.

According to reports, A's family moved into the apartment in Beomeo-dong in 2022 and had been living there for five years; however, they had only registered with the management office of the Shinchon-dong apartment where the fire occurred, without changing their address.

Neither apartment was owned by them, and it is known that A’s husband, B, had been living in the Beomeo-dong apartment until recently.

A resident of the Beomeo-dong apartment, where A’s family was registered, said, “There has been a CCTV camera installed at the entrance for several years, and it seemed strange that there were hardly any packages delivered to that house.” They added, “A few months ago, A asked if I had seen the front door open, and local kids mentioned that ‘there was a burglar’ in that house.”

The CCTV that was located in front of A's house was reportedly removed two weeks ago, and there have been no records of police having been dispatched to the apartment regarding reports of theft.

Additionally, the resident explained, “A didn’t respond to greetings from other residents and always went up the stairs, looking gloomy.”

Another resident stated, “Garbage was always taken out by the husband (B). If he were a commuter, he would normally take it out in the early morning or evening on weekdays or during the weekend, but he was frequently seen during the day, so I thought he was self-employed,” adding that he didn’t respond well when greeted.

Meanwhile, on the 11th, the police revealed that they had found evidence suggesting that the entrance door was blocked from the inside with furniture at the time of the incident. They are initiating an investigation to determine whether the cause of death for A's family was due to the fire or other reasons such as external factors.

Currently, the police are conducting autopsies on A and his two children in collaboration with the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, planning to check for signs of airway damage and poisoning.
