Teen Part-Time Workers' Shocking Embezzlement Scheme
Two teenage part-time workers at a famous handmade chocolate store were caught embezzling sales by pretending to hold a promotional event that offered a 2000 KRW discount for bank transfers.
On the 11th, JTBC's 'Incident Report' shared the story of a self-employed individual, Mr. A, who suffered damages amounting to 50 million KRW due to the actions of these teenagers.
According to Mr. A, he recently noticed an alarming trend: his store's sales, which had reached 40 million KRW as of last February, dropped to around 10 million KRW last month.
At first, he thought it was a result of the economic downturn, but he discovered there was a serious issue after receiving an inquiry from a customer.

Discovery of the Embezzlement Through a Customer Inquiry
The customer asked, "Did you stop the 2000 KRW discount for bank transfers? You used to offer it," regarding a promotion that Mr. A had never actually held.
It turned out that the two teenage part-time workers at that location had initiated the "2000 KRW discount for bank transfers" event without Mr. A's knowledge, siphoning off profits.
Store CCTV captured footage of the part-time workers announcing the discount and coaxing customers to make payments to their personal bank accounts. Mr. A asked an acquaintance to pose as a customer to gather solid evidence.
When Mr. A presented the evidence, the offending part-time workers admitted their wrongdoing. Mr. A reported, "New part-time workers started this month, and in just ten days, we have recovered the sales that took a month to lose."

The estimated damage caused by the offending part-time workers is around 50 million KRW. Despite the substantial amount, Mr. A chose not to report the incident to the police, considering that the offenders were teenagers.
Fortunately, the part-time workers and their parents have since apologized to Mr. A, and restitution for the damages has been made.
Mr. A expressed, "I trusted and hired the part-time workers, but the sense of betrayal is too great," adding, "I hope other small business owners take this as an opportunity for vigilance."
