Weapons and Ammunition Found in a Closed Factory in Guro-gu

Over 60 pieces of ammunition and firearms were discovered at a closed factory in Guro-gu, Seoul, prompting the police to launch an investigation. This incident has raised concerns once again about illegal firearm possession.

The police have initiated a pre-investigation into Mr. A, a man in his 70s who was leasing and using the closed factory, on charges of violating the Gunpowder Control Act.

Notably, the firearms and ammunition discovered this time were confirmed to be unregistered with the police. Illegal possession of firearms can pose a serious threat to public safety, which has led the police to conduct a thorough investigation.

The whereabouts of the closed factory's lessee remain unclear

Currently, Mr. A, the lessee of the closed factory, has not responded to police contact and has also disappeared from his residence.

The police are tracking Mr. A as the owner of the firearms.

The police have sent the air gun and air gun pellets to the Firearm, Gunpowder Safety Technology Association under the National Police Agency, and the military-grade ammunition to a nearby military base for evaluation to ascertain their exact performance and risks. Furthermore, they are closely investigating the origins of the firearms and ammunition.

Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation, not ruling out the possibility that the firearms may have been registered manually before the digitization of their management system, even though they are not currently listed in the system.

According to Article 10 of the Gunpowder Control Act, it is illegal to possess firearms without a separate permit, and violators will face punishment.

Residents in the Guro-gu area have expressed anxiety over the discovery of illegal firearms near their residences and are expecting swift investigation and action from the police.
