Daejeon Ex-Boyfriend Murder Suspect, Jang Jae-won, Identity Disclosure Decision

The police have disclosed the identity information of Jang Jae-won (26), who is suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend with a weapon in Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.

The Daejeon Police Agency held an identity information disclosure committee meeting on the 8th and decided to make Jang's information public. His name, age, and face will be posted on the Daejeon Police Agency website from the 11th until the 10th of next month.

The committee stated that it comprehensively considered the brutality of the crime, the seriousness of the victim's condition, and the opinions of the victim's family.

No Objection from the Parties for Public Disclosure

Current laws regarding the public disclosure of identity information for suspects of specific violent crimes stipulate that if a suspect raises an objection, there must be a five-day grace period before the disclosure decision takes effect.

However, Jang did not file any objections, leading to an immediate confirmation of the identity disclosure.

Dispute Over Motorcycle Ownership Leads to Murder

Jang is suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend, referred to as A, at around 12:08 PM on the 29th of last month on a street in Goejeong-dong.

He fled immediately after the crime but was apprehended the following day. Just before his arrest, he attempted suicide by poisoning and received treatment at a hospital, eventually being discharged on the 5th of this month. During the police investigation, Jang stated, "During a dispute over the motorcycle lease ownership, I became angry when I thought she was ignoring me and decided I had to kill her."

Investigations revealed that he had been planning the crime for 3 to 4 months prior to the incident and had purchased the weapon in advance, committing the act on the day he was going to change the motorcycle's ownership.
