A tragic incident occurred in an apartment in Daegu, where three members of a family lost their lives in a fire.

The police are investigating the case with the possibility that someone intentionally set the fire, as a large number of candles and matches were found at the scene.

At around 3:35 AM on the 10th, a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 17-story apartment in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu. Firefighters extinguished the fire in 19 minutes, but a mother in her 40s and her two teenage children were found dead.

The two children were found inside the house, while the mother had fallen from the balcony and was discovered in the flower bed on the first floor. She was transported to the hospital but ultimately did not survive. It is reported that the father, who was also residing with them, was not at home at the time.

During the evacuation process due to the fire, about 20 residents of the apartment had to flee, and three individuals suffered injuries from smoke inhalation and received hospital treatment.

Large Amounts of Candles and Matches Found…Apartment Not Required to Have Sprinklers Installed

According to the police and fire authorities' on-site investigation, a significant number of candles and matches were discovered in the master bedroom, kitchen, and living room. CCTV footage and any notes have not been confirmed, and it is being investigated whether the battery of the front door lock was removed during the fire suppression process.

According to a report by SBS, the deceased family was residing in an apartment that was not their own. This apartment, constructed in 1998, is identified as not being required to have sprinklers installed.

According to fire safety regulations at the time, sprinkles were only mandatory from the 16th floor upward in apartments with more than 16 floors, excluding basements.

A police official stated, "We are securing statements from the family and, based on initial investigations, are keeping all possibilities open as we investigate the cause of the fire."
