Navigation service to guide to ‘available parking spaces’ at domestic airports to be introduced.

Airport Parking Space Navigation Service to be Introduced Within This Year

One of the stressful moments for travelers using the airport is the time spent searching for available parking spaces. The Korea Airport Corporation is preparing an innovative service to alleviate this inconvenience.

On the 4th, the Korea Airport Corporation officially announced that it will promote a navigation service for guiding available parking spaces at domestic airports. This service is expected to be implemented as early as the end of this year.

Currently, platforms like Naver and Daum only provide information on the number of available parking spaces, but the new service will allow users to receive detailed guidance from the entrance of the parking lot to the actual available spots.

Establishment of a Smart Parking System Utilizing Advanced Technology

The service will be available at Gimpo Airport (International Basement, International 2), Gimhae Airport (P1 Tower), Cheongju Airport (Tower) indoor parking lots, and Gimhae, Cheongju (Terminal 2) outdoor parking lots.

The Korea Airport Corporation plans to integrate and analyze the parking space vacancy data at each airport using ultrasound, video, and LiDAR technology, and to link this information to navigation systems in real time for accurate guidance.

Additionally, a 'Find My Car System' utilizing LiDAR technology will also be introduced.

LiDAR is a technology that measures the distance to obstacles using laser distance sensors and recognizes spatial information in real time. The corporation has begun developing a system that combines vehicle tracking information with an integrated parking database to help users easily find their cars after parking.

This system is expected to be implemented at Cheongju Airport Terminal 2 parking lot (1703 spaces).

A corporation official stated, "We are developing a navigation service that guides users to available parking spaces at the airport," adding, "We plan to operate the service by the end of this year through consultations with domestic navigation operators."
