60-Year-Old Chinese National Suspected of Murdering Cohabitant Attends Arrest Warrant Review
A 60-year-old man of Chinese nationality, identified as Mr. Kim, who is accused of stabbing and killing a woman in her 50s with whom he cohabited in Garibong-dong, Guro District, appeared in court.
Mr. Kim arrived at the Seoul Southern District Court around 2:30 PM on the 2nd to undergo a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review).
While detained at the detention center of the Geumcheon Police Station, Mr. Kim briefly responded to reporters' questions.

When asked if he felt any regret towards the victim, he answered "yes" but did not provide any further response when asked what exactly he regretted.
Starting at 3 PM that day, Judge Kim Sung-eun of the Seoul Southern District Court conducted the warrant review for Mr. Kim, who is facing murder charges. A thorough examination of the evidence and circumstances surrounding Mr. Kim's alleged crime is expected to take place.
The suspect, who has a history of domestic violence, has apparently changed his statement regarding the motive for the crime.
Mr. Kim is accused of killing the woman in her 50s by stabbing her multiple times with a weapon in a modified residence at a massage parlor located in Garibong-dong at approximately 3:17 AM on the 31st of last month.
The victim, a naturalized citizen of South Korea, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away.

During the police investigation, Mr. Kim reportedly denied the charges, claiming, "After I notified her of our breakup, the victim tried to attack me first." However, it is known that he admitted to the act of the crime itself, although he seems to have changed some of his statements regarding the motive.
It is noteworthy that the victim had previously reported Mr. Kim to the police on two occasions.
The victim filed reports against Mr. Kim on June 11, 2023, and again on the 26th of last month. In the June report, she stated, "I fell and broke my bones," but the police investigation revealed that Mr. Kim had assaulted her, resulting in a fracture of her leg, leading to a fine being imposed on him.
Five days before her death, on the 26th of last month, the victim also reported that "he is tormenting me," but later stated, "It's nothing serious, I don't need help," and disappeared from contact.
The following day, the victim told police, "We had a verbal dispute, but we resolved it, and I turned off my phone and went to sleep," while also refusing to meet in person.

The results of the warrant review for Mr. Kim are expected to be announced as early as that evening.
