The police investigating the favoritism allegations surrounding Iksan City's signboard maintenance project are currently working to confirm the source of the "mysterious bundles of cash" discovered in the vehicle of an urgently arrested public official.

According to the Jeonbuk Police Agency on the 29th, the police urgently arrested a level 5 executive public official, Mr. A, from Iksan City Hall the day before, citing concerns about evidence destruction. In this process, the police conducted a search of Iksan City Hall to confirm suspicions that a local association, which had entered into a private contract with Iksan City, had provided favoritism to a specific company (obstruction of public duty by coercion, etc.).

During the search, Mr. A was seen trying to move his vehicle through an employee, and the police discovered cash worth tens of millions of won after searching the vehicle.

Through this search, police have reportedly secured materials related to the signboard maintenance project from the past five years, as the local association under investigation has made multiple contracts with Iksan City during that time.

A public official from Iksan City Hall, requesting anonymity, shared, "A considerable amount was discovered, and with an executive-level public official being arrested on-site, the internal atmosphere is quite tense." They also mentioned, "There are rumors of additional issues apart from what has been reported in the media, and it is said that contractors who have secured many public works projects in Iksan are feeling uneasy."
