A 50-Year-Old Man Pursued Victim with Air Gun over Financial Dispute in Jeju

Despite the shock of the Incheon Songdo homemade firearm murder case still lingering, a 50-year-old man in Jeju was involved in an incident where he pursued a victim with an air gun due to a financial dispute.

This incident has garnered attention as a shocking event occurring at a time when societal awareness of gun crime has heightened.

On the 28th, the Jeju Eastern Police Station announced that they had urgently arrested a man identified as A (in his 50s) on suspicion of attempted murder.

According to the police, on the 27th, around 6 PM, A is accused of striking B (also in his 50s) on the head with a hammer in an office on a ranch located in Songdang-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City.

When the victim B fled outside the office, A allegedly chased him with the air gun he owned. This incident erupted from a financial dispute into a violent situation but was prevented from escalating further due to the victim's swift report to the authorities.

A's arrest was made due to the police's quick response to prevent additional harm… Illegal air gun seized.

After receiving the victim's report, the police dispatched officers who urgently arrested A at the ranch around 6:56 PM on the 27th and seized the air gun and lead pellets that had been discarded in nearby bushes.

Investigation revealed that the air gun was an illegal weapon that had not been registered. Although it is non-lethal, it is considered dangerous as it could cause fatal injuries if aimed at vital points.

In police questioning, A stated, "I committed the act because I had not received over 500 million won from a real estate transaction for a year," adding, “I carried the air gun to chase stray dogs from the ranch."

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A.
